Read about the "national costume" of Wales/Cymru at the web site for the St Fagans National History Museum and how the preservation of traditional Welsh dress, plus other aspects of Welsh heritage, is attributed to Lady Llanover. More information about Welsh clothing can be found in the book Welsh Costume in the 18th & 19th Century by Ken Ethridge, published in 1977. A selection of clothing articles held in the Ceredigion Museum, Aberystwyth, can be seen at the Gathering the Jewels website. Did they really wear that
hat??
Aaahh, the kilt/cilt – to wear or not to wear? As there is no letter “k” in the Welsh language, you will see the word spelled with either a “k” or a “c” – so choose your spelling while you’re deciding whether or not to order one.
History of Kilts in Wales The above item is from the Welsh Kilt Page where, if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the home page, you will find Ciltman’s links for kilt makers (not the "sponsored links" showing on the right side of the screen) and, even if you don’t want to order one, you might find a fabric swatch to go with your family name. You might also take a look at Wales Tartan Center to find your family’s fabric pattern or items to enhance your wardrobe. Most of the sites selling kilts also offer apparel for women. |
